Snitches get gifts when they report potential trademark infringements to Ferrari

Ferrari May Give You A Gift If You Snitch On Trademark Infringers

In an unusual twist for an Italian organization based around a family, Ferrari has forgotten that snitches get stitches. Or, at least, it thinks that it can offer people who alert it to cases of trademark infringement a gift so good that they’ll forget about getting stitches.

That’s the meat of the proposition made in the “Ferrari Anti-Counterfeiting Reward” program, which the automaker helpfully refers to as a “scheme.” The idea likely won’t come as a surprise to readers, given the automaker’s overly-aggressive treatment of perceived trademark infringements.

Reports of this new scheme first emerged on Ferrarichat.com, where a user claims to have received an email about it from the office of Enrico Galliera, the company’s chief commercial and marketing officer.

Unfortunately, the automaker does not clarify what prize it will award to snitches, nor what it will be worth. All it says is that “participants will have the chance to receive a Ferrari gift item […] the nature and value of this Gift Item will be determined solely at Ferrari’s discretion. Available while stocks last.”

If the mystery of the gift is enticing to you, and you know of a “product potentially infringing on Ferrari’s trademarks being sold in a commercial setting,” you can submit a report on Ferrari’s website, under the “Reward Anticounterfeiting” section.

In your report, you must give the automaker information about the name of the company, the infringement, photographic documentation of the product, as well as location. With that, the company will investigate the issue and, if it gets back to you, may offer you a prize.

Would you snitch on a company for a gift from Ferrari of unspecified value? More to the point, will you be keeping an eye out for sketchy badges now that you’re aware of this scheme?
