Watch Milwaukee Drivers Go Flying Over A Giant Speed Hump

by Sebastien Bell

A Milwaukee resident named Marcus Powell has caused his street to go viral after he posted videos of drivers flying over a speed hump near his home. The video shows vehicles of all kinds launching into the air after hitting the traffic-calming measure, going too fast.

In a TikTok video, the Powell shows a large number of vehicles hitting the hump, which is bracketed by two signs warning drivers of its existence, as well as a recommended speed limit sign, showing a safe speed of 15 mph (24 km/h).

“At least 30–40 cars come here every day,” Powell told Fox6. “About half that come through fly over that speed hump. It’s wild, but I’m kind of used to it. I see it every day.”

Powell’s video opens with a Dodge Challenger scraping its nose along the street after hitting the speed hump at too high a speed, and being popped up in the air. It also shows a wide variety of other vehicles, from humdrum Kias, to mail trucks, delivery trucks, and even a police car hitting the hump too quickly.

In addition to the vehicles whose drivers appear to simply be surprised by the speed hump while driving too quickly, a number of the drivers featured in the video engage in actively dangerous behavior. That includes one car that drives on the grass next to the hump, a motorcycle that seems to use the hump as a ramp, and even a few vehicles going the wrong way down the one-way street.

Based on the video, the street that the speed hump is located on appears to run alongside a park, which may explain the decision to install it in the first place. That’s not the only reason that residents want motorists to slow down, though.

“Yes, all the time,” said neighbor Shakoora Ward, when asked if she sees cars speeding on the street. “I even put signs in the yard because there’s a day care down there—to slow down. There are babies on the block. There’s a park. Slow down.”
