Would You Really Drop $75,000 For A Ferrari V8 Coffee Table?

  • The auctioneer says this very engine was used in competition and includes the ignition coils.
  • A custom metal frame has been built to support a half-inch pane of tempered glass.
  • Plenty of used Ferrari engines are available on eBay, including the V12 from a FF.

Back in the day, Top Gear’s set included a coffee table made from the block of a Jaguar V12, and now, you have the chance to own a similar table – albeit one that’s arguably more special and much, much more valuable. In fact, for what this particular table might sell for, you could park a used G80 BMW M3 in your driveway instead of, well, your living room.

Heading to auction later this week, the table is built around the F136 4.5-liter naturally-aspirated V8 of the Ferrari 458 Italia. The listing says the engine has been “used in competition,” indicating it was pulled from a racing car before being converted into a table. There’s no word on whether the engine was still functional when it was converted into a display piece, but we can see it retains the original ignition coils and has been given a thorough clean.

Mated to the Ferrari engine are custom metal supports that support the half-inch thick tempered glass tabletop. The coolest thing about this automotive art piece is that a hole has been cut out of the glass, meaning the red intake plenums that protrude are on full display. The table weighs in at a hefty 250 lbs (113 kg) and sits on casters, meaning the next owner will be able to position it anywhere in their house easily.

RM Sotheby’s expects the coffee table to sell for between $50,000 and $75,000. That’s a heck of a lot of money, particularly since there are other modern Ferrari engines available on eBay for far less. One seller in Maryland is selling the V12 of a Ferrari FF for $30,000, while the twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter V8 of a Ferrari 488 Evo Challenge race car is available for $41,999.

However, if you’re in the market for a coffee table made from a Ferrari engine, you’re probably not someone who’s hunting for eBay deals anyway. After all, some people want an M3. Others just want their furniture to make a statement.
