Na Na Na… BAM! Drunk Batman Driver Crashes Into A Pole, Flees Like A Villain

  • Police tracked down the costume-wearing suspect after local residents joined the chase.
  • A UK court imposed a 12-month driving ban and a $765 fine on the caped offender.

Sometimes, the best stories don’t come from epic battles or daring rescues. They emerge from the absurdity of everyday life. Consider the case of a UK man dressed as Batman (think Temu’s “Budget Knight” collection) who managed to land himself in trouble. Not for thwarting supervillains, but for an alleged drunk-driving mishap that left his so-called Batmobile out of commission.

The suspect, identified by Wiltshire Police as 25-year-old Lewis Blondrage, reportedly lost control of his car in the English town of Tidworth on November 19, crashing into a telegraph pole before fleeing the scene. Unfortunately for Blondrage, this wasn’t a stealthy retreat into the Batcave; it was more of a clumsy stumble into the local hedgerows.

Local residents became unlikely sidekicks, joining the chase as Blondrage made his ill-fated getaway. With help from K-9 units, police eventually tracked him down. What they found was a scene almost too surreal to be true. Blondrage was still decked out in his full Batman costume, as if clinging to a shred of comic-book bravado. Spoiler alert: the cape didn’t help.

“You’ve been identified as the driver of a vehicle that’s crashed around the corner,” officers informed the man in footage released by police. When asked whether he had consumed alcohol in the last twenty minutes, Blondrage offered a less-than-stellar vigilante response: “Yeah. Twenty minutes. I’m not sure. I honestly don’t know.” It’s safe to say, Christian Bale wouldn’t approve of the delivery.

As reported by the BBC, Blondrage was charged with drink driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. A court handed him a 12-month driving ban and a £600 (about $765) fine. It’s a costly conclusion to a night of questionable decision-making, and perhaps a reminder that some capes (and keys) are better left in the closet.
