<br /> Nissan’s ‘Smell My Dust’ Perfume Mixes Cherry Blossoms With Burnt Rubber | Carscoops

While this may seem like a late April’s Fools joke, Nissan has actually made a car-themed fragrance

Nissan’s ‘Smell My Dust’ Perfume Mixes Cherry Blossoms With Burnt Rubber

  • The carmaker’s new fragrance has been launched just before the inaugural Formula E race in Shanghai.
  • A perfumer in Shanghai created the scene using tiny remnants of Formula E tires.
  • It’s unclear how enthusiasts will be able to grab a bottle of Smell My Dust.

As car enthusiasts, there are some scents we relish that others can’t stand. Gasoline, tire smoke, engine oil, to name a few. Nissan is hoping it can lure in rev heads like us with its new niche fragrance, dubbed ‘Smell My Dust’. Will it pass the sniff test?

The fragrance was unveiled through a compelling – yet slightly creepy – video posted on social media by the Nissan Nismo page ahead of the upcoming Formula E race in Shanghai. While the whole thing smells like nothing more than a clever marketing ploy, it does seem like Nissan is genuinely planning to produce and sell this fragrance.

It claims to blend the aroma of cherry blossoms with tire smoke, purportedly capturing the essence of its Formula E racing team. Combining these two scents does sound a bit weird, but individually, they’re nice, so perhaps they’ll create a pleasing aroma when combined.

“Nissan Formula E Team’s new scent combines tones of Sakura, the flower displayed on the cars, with the smell of tyre remnants from the team’s Nissan e-4ORCE 04 race cars to combine a surprising concoction,” Nissan said in a statement.

“A top note of cherry blossom branches and rosemary were combined with burnt sugar and woody tones. The result is a fragrance that embodies the beauty of cherry blossom with the thrill and grit of a racing team,” the company added.

According to Top Gear, the scent was created by a perfumer in Shanghai who actually used tiny remnants of Formula E tires.

If Nissan does intend to produce and sell its ‘Smell By Dust’ scent, we suspect it will only be available in limited quantities for a short time.
