The chart beats its own purpose and could easily make prospective buyers think twice about placing a deposit for a Ford Mustang Mach-E

Ford Dealer’s Mach-E vs. Tesla Model Y Comparison Chart Backfires Hilariously

  • The chart was allegedly handed over to prospective customers by a Ford dealer in Northern Virginia.
  • Embarrassingly, the Tesla Model Y outperformed the equivalent Ford Mustang Mach-E in the most important aspects.
  • Both automakers have since updated their pricing catalogs.

Finding the right new car to buy can be a complex task, especially when dealerships prioritize promoting their own inventory over objectively comparing it to competitors’ offerings. But a Ford dealership in Northern Virginia is throwing a wrench in the works – it’s reportedly handing out a comparison chart that inadvertently throws shade on its own Mustang Mach-E and makes the Tesla Model Y look like the undisputed champ.

According to a Reddit user who shared photo evidence on the Tesla Lounge thread, the chart is being used by Ford salesmen in an effort to promote their electric crossover against its biggest rival. It meticulously compares key specs of the two electric crossovers, including acceleration, top speed, range, battery capacity, power output, cargo space, seating capacity, charging speeds, and, of course, price.

Unfortunately for the Ford dealer, the Tesla Model Y comes out ahead in most of the compared categories. Despite boasting more powerful motors and larger batteries in some trims, the Mustang Mach-E lags behind the Tesla in terms of both acceleration and range.

To make matters worse, the claimed range of the Tesla Model Y SR is now outdated – although to be fair, we don’t have the exact date the photos were taken. Elon Musk recently announced that the standard Model Y can travel up to 320 miles (515 km) between charges. This widens the disparity with the entry-level Ford Mach-E Select, which offers a range of only 230 miles (370 km).

To give Ford some credit, the Mach-E Select and Premium AWD trims are priced lower than their rival Tesla Model Y SR and LR models. Only the flagship Mach-E GT is more expensive than the Model Y Performance.

Following recent price cuts, both the Mustang Mach-E and Model Y have seen surges in sales. Ford slashed prices across the 2024 Mach-E lineup, while Tesla made all Model Y trims more affordable. Below, you’ll find an updated chart with the current prices listed on the automakers’ websites (excluding the $7,500 federal tax credit).

In any case, the Ford dealer’s chart undermines its own purpose and could give prospective buyers pause before placing a deposit for a Mach-E. Hopefully, the dealer has already updated it with the new pricing. Perhaps they should consider using different arguments if their goal is to promote their product rather than inadvertently boost Elon Musk’s Tesla sales.
