  • Tayvion L. Robinson has been hit with multiple charges, including reckless driving.
  • A trooper ended the chase by performing a PIT maneuver on the speeding Dodge.
  • The 22-year-old tried to evade authorities on foot but was unsuccessful.

Police in Tampa, Florida, have arrested a 22-year-old man who was spotted driving a black Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat at over 130 mph (209 km/h) in a 60 mph (96 km/h) zone.

Authorities were alerted to the speeding driver at around 11:20 a.m. on April 30 when an officer from the Florida Highway Patrol spotted him weaving in and out of traffic. The trooper attempted to stop the man but he refused to pull over, instead choosing to cut across all lanes and overtaking other motorists on the left shoulder.

The driver, later identified as Tayvion L. Robinson, was then spotted hitting over 147 mph (237 km/h) on I-275 before pulling off into a suburban area where he promptly ran a red light. Unfortunately for him, things started to go awry when Robinson crashed into a truck and a sedan while trying to squeeze past them. Soon after, a police cruiser hit him with a PIT maneuver.

Not willing to give up, the 22-year-old and a male passenger jumped out of the Charger and tried to flee on foot, running south along S Lois Ave, Fox35 reports. Robinson was later found hiding inside a garbage can on Henderson Blvd after authorities set up a perimeter around the area.

Robinson was arrested and brought back to the scene. WFLA says he has been charged with reckless driving, fleeing to elude high speed, and driving with no valid driver’s license. He is also understood to have been in violation of his probation.

While attempting to run from the police is idiotic, plenty of people still try to do it. Earlier this week, a Hyundai Elantra N driver in Arkansas was arrested after a high-speed chase with officers that saw the driver speed through a highway construction zone.
