A Rare $350,000 BMW 8 X Jeff Koons Has Already Been Crashed

One of the special BMW M850i xDrive Gran Coupe models designed in partnership with pop artist Jeff Koons was recently sold online after being crashed and offloaded by the owner’s insurance company. While it is unclear how much it changed hands for, the new owner will likely look to repair it and return it to the roads.

The intriguing limited edition, formally named the BMW 8 X Jeff Koons and derived from the M850i xDrive Gran Coupe featuring a 523hp turbocharged V8, was unveiled in early 2022. Limited to just 99 examples worldwide, the U.S. model was priced at $350,000 or $250,000 more than the car it was based upon.

All units built share the same dramatic looks and while it certainly won’t appeal to all, any BMW art car is special and this creation is no different. After all, painting each unit requires hundreds of hours of detailed work, and that alone makes the car noteworthy.

This model was sold through SCA Auctions with just 11 miles (17.7 km) on the clock. The listing notes that the primary damage done to the car is found on the roof but it is hard to tell what damage has been done in these low-quality images.  We can see that the sunroof is open and it may have been smashed. Some damage has also been done to the front right quarter of the car but it appears relatively minor.

What does the future hold for this 8-Series? We have our fingers crossed that the new owner will have the front quarter panel and bumper repaired or replaced and the roof fixed before putting the car back onto the street.

Of course, repairing or replacing parts for this creation won’t be as easy as any regular car due to how few examples were ever built. The bumper and quarter panel will need to be repainted and for that to be done, the parts will probably have to be returned to Germany in what will no doubt prove to be a very expensive exercise.

It’s not just the wild paint scheme that makes the 8 X Jeff Koons stand out. Found in the cabin is a mixture of different colored leathers including royal blue and two tones of red. There is also brown leather on the doors, black leather on the dashboard, brown carpets, and red floor mats.
