Hyundai Takes Unexpected Flight That Ends In Surreal Tree Hangout

If video games have taught me anything, it’s that crashing into a tree is the surest way for a drive to end in tragedy. However, a recent accident in Longmeadow, Massachussets — just north of the Connecticut border — suggests that video games may have been lying to us.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Converse Street and Redfern Drive, at around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, according to the Longmeadow Fire Department. When they arrived, they found a Hyundai Tucson lodged in a thicket of trees, several feet in the air.

Photos of the incident reveal the extraordinary nature of this crash. The sheer density of trees and their intricate interweaving makes it challenging to tell which trunks the Tucson is wedged against. This creates the impression that the accident is still unfolding, as if the crossover is frozen in time. Coupled with the eerie red lighting, it contributes to giving this accident a surreal quality.

And it must have been an even stranger accident for the people who were there. The fire department reports that when it arrived on the scene, the vehicle’s two occupants were still in the vehicle, just hanging out.

Miraculously, no one involved reported any injuries, and the first responders were able to help the occupants out without any further misadventure. The fire department reports that the incident is still under investigation.

However, based on the second photo of the accident, it appears that there is a bit of a berm leading to the thicket of trees, which may have acted as a ramp, launching the Hyundai into the air. What caused the vehicle to lose control is, of course, unknown at this time.
