<br /> Airplane Overshoots Runway, Slams Into Hyundai In Texas | Carscoops

A Hyundai Sonata was minding its own business in McKinney, Texas, this weekend, when it was run into by an airplane making an emergency landing

A driver in McKinney, Texas, had the surreal experience of colliding with a plane this weekend. The accident occurred just outside Aero County Airport, after a prop plane overshot the runway during landing, breached a fence, and entered Aero County Road.

The McKinney Fire Department responded to the unusual call at 12:30, on Saturday, November 11. The Lancair IV-P plane had originally flown out of Midland, an oil patch city about 330 miles from McKinney, and the pilot said that it was their first time landing at Aero County Airport.

Some witnesses claimed that the incident occurred because of a deficiency with the airplane’s brakes. Others claimed that the airplane’s pilot said that the reverse thrust on the plane wasn’t working, which is what caused it to overshoot the runway.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration, reports WFAA. However, the fire department indicates that the plane was making an emergency landing in McKinney, which may help clarify why it couldn’t slow down.

Fortunately, although three people were examined at the scene — two occupants from the airplane and the car’s driver — only one (the driver) was taken to hospital with minor injuries. As you might expect, the woman in the terrestrial vehicle was a bit shaken, according to Jack Schneider, who working nearby, and caught the incident on video.

“She was definitely surprised, it’s not something you expect to have happened to you,” he said. “It was completely surreal. I wasn’t expecting it, obviously… Everybody is okay, though, and we’re all thankful that nobody was hurt.”

That no one was seriously hurt is almost miraculous. Video of the incident shows how much speed the plane carried over the runway. Even the fence barely slowed it down, and it collided with the car, a Hyundai Sonata, with remarkable speed.
