A graphic video shows a car hitting a police officer in Toronto, Canada, throwing him off his bike in an attempt to escape arrest. The allegedly stolen vehicle was driven by a 17-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy that were arrested in the course of the next few days.
The incident took place last Saturday at 2:22 p.m., on the Jameson Avenue and King Street West junction near Parkdale. A group of three bicycle cops spotted the stolen car waiting on a red light, but as they approached it the driver stepped on the accelerator. The Toyota Corolla sedan drove directly into one of the officers, throwing him on the stationary vehicle at the front and forcing him off his bike.

The official statement of the police reads: “As officers approached the vehicle on bicycles, the driver accelerated towards them, forcing one officer to abandon their bicycle. In an attempt to flee the scene, the stolen vehicle then struck and injured another officer.” As reported by CBC, the officer was taken to the hospital where his non-life-threatening injuries were treated.
After the crash, the red Toyota with the two teenage occupants fled the scene. Police officers later located the vehicle abandoned on Lansdowne Avenue and Queen Street West.
On Monday, officers arrested a 17-year-old female and on Tuesday a 15-year-old male who can’t be unidentified as they are protected by Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act. Both suspects were charged with 8 serious offenses including dangerous driving, assault with a weapon, theft, fleeing an accident scene, and more.
