Multiple people are injured after witnesses say the Tesla Model Y drove across multiple lanes and flew off of the freeway

Sometime around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, a Tesla Model Y flew off of the 10 Freeway in Los Angeles and ended up in a homeless camp. Authorities reported multiple injuries related to the crash including some who went to the hospital. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The wreck occurred on the westbound side of the 10 at the National Boulevard exit in Cheviot Hills. According to witnesses that spoke with Fox 11, the car drove across “all the lanes” before flying off of the road, down an embankment, and into a homeless camp. Firefighters that responded to the crash say that two individuals in the camp left the scene rather than receive aid.
Inside the Tesla were at least four women, three of which went to the hospital with critical injuries. A fourth suffered only minor injuries. One passenger told Fox 11 that the driver was sober and that the group was traveling to a friend’s residence. While the crash remains under investigation it’s sure to spark continued debate about the cause.

Tesla has come under fire for its semiautonomous driving technology Autopilot and Full Self-Driving. To date, it hasn’t been found to be the actual cause of any such accident though. In many cases, driver distraction, drowsiness, drugs, or alcohol seem to be at the heart of the issue.
Police are continuing their investigation. This is a developing story and we’ll update this story as we hear more.
