High-speed chases normally involve boring vehicles, but the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office has released footage of a chase featuring a BMW M4.

While the clip doesn’t show how things started, the Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred on December 17th when a deputy attempted to pull over a driver for reportedly failing to dim their headlights.

That’s far from egregious, but 22-year-old Islam Aslanov reportedly started to accelerate when the deputy approached.  The footage apparently picks up from there as we can see the M4 take a commanding lead as the deputy calls it in.

The car is barely visible for much of the chase, but the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said Aslanov was going 70 mph (113 km/h) in a 35 mph (56 km) zone and hit speeds in excess of 100 mph (161 km/h) once he got on Buford Highway. They went on to say the driver was clocked at 144 mph (232 km/h) on GA 400 South.

Eventually, a deputy was able to get ahead of the driver and deploy spike sticks.  While the video quality isn’t the best, the move was successful and the M4 slowed down and exited onto McFarland Parkway.

Another deputy then picked up the chase and the car resumed speeding.  However, it eventually slowed back down as one of the front tires was reportedly flat.  The man eventually makes a left turn and the deputy attempts a PIT maneuver.  This doesn’t work, but he tries again and is successful as the coupe spins 180 degrees and slams into the front of the cruiser.

The chase then comes to an end as the man gives up and sticks his hands out the window.  The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office says Aslanov was charged with fleeing/attempting to elude, speeding, reckless driving, and failure to dim lights. They added that when asked why he ran, Aslanov said he “freaked out when he saw the deputy behind him.”
