If you try to flee from the police, odds are it won’t end well. And if your getaway vehicle of choice happens to be a stolen skid-steer? Well, that’s a whole new level of doomed. An individual in Mobile, Alabama, recently attempted exactly that, only to be shot by police after a slow-motion chase that feels like something straight out of a bizarre action-comedy.
It all started on the morning of January 30, when Asphalt workers discovered that their skid-steer was missing and quickly alerted police to the theft. Shortly after, the Bobcat thief used the vehicle to try and hit a pedestrian and refused police orders to comply with a traffic stop.

From time to time, we do see cases of motorists refusing to stop and then proceeding to hit the gas in an attempt to outrun the police. While the skid-steer was limited to just a few miles per hour, the driver did the same, slowly making their way onto Interstate 10.
Part of the pursuit on the interstate was captured on video by a local. In the clip, the skid-steer can be seen slamming into the rear of a police cruiser, forcing the officer to accelerate away to avoid further damage. The driver appears to have then made other attempts to hit other police vehicles.

According to Wear News, police opened fire on the driver after failing to get them to comply with orders to stop. It’s understood the driver was injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries isn’t known. According to those who witnessed the arrest, approximately 8-10 shots were fired.
As for what prompted this strange, slow-motion rampage? That remains a mystery, along with the list of charges the suspect is likely to face. But one thing’s for sure: a skid-steer is definitely not the ideal getaway car.
