Man With A 36-Year Driving Ban Crashes Porsche, Fails At Both Escaping And Hiding

  • The man briefly led police on a chase through a paint shop in Cabramatta, Australia.
  • The Porsche Cayenne was unregistered, uninsured, and wearing stolen license plates.
  • Local authorities have charged the man with eight offenses following his reckless behavior.

A 52-year-old Australian man, already banned from driving for a staggering 36 years, has been arrested after a chaotic string of events involving a stolen Porsche Cayenne, a high-speed crash, and a short-lived foot chase through suburban Sydney. If his life were an action movie, it would’ve gone straight to DVD.

The drama unfolded last week in Cabramatta, where the man plowed through a roundabout before T-boning a white Lexus CT hatchback. Within 30 seconds of the crash, police arrived on the scene, only to watch the Porsche driver abandon his vehicle and flee on foot.

CCTV footage documented the man’s escape attempt as he sprinted into a nearby paint store, but officers were in hot pursuit, following him closely as he darted out the front door. Soon, the man decided to give up, surrendering after briefly hiding behind a parked Honda CR-V. Police had been pursuing the man shortly before the crash after spotting him driving more than 30 km/h (18 mph) over the speed limit.

Unregistered, Uninsured, And Unbothered

Further investigations peeled back even more layers of mischief, exposing the full extent of the man’s disregard for the law. Police discovered that the Porsche Cayenne he had been driving was not only unregistered and uninsured, but also bore license plates stolen from an Audi Q7. To add to the list of infractions, the man had the keys to a stolen motorbike and another car in his possession at the time of his arrest, 9News reports.

Perhaps the pièce de résistance of this saga is the man’s storied history with the law. As it turns out, the suspect had no business being behind the wheel of any vehicle. Back in 2005, he was slapped with a 36-year driving ban, legally prohibiting him from driving until 2041. Yet, this lengthy restriction had clearly done little to deter his penchant for reckless behavior.

The man now faces eight charges, ranging from speeding to failing to stop for police. If the courts didn’t have enough to work with before, his latest escapade has handed them a veritable buffet of legal violations.
