Oops! $300k Lamborghini Diablo Falls Off Transport Truck

  • A silver Lamborghini Diablo VT suffered damage after an accident during vehicle transport.
  • The transport truck’s elevator failed while unloading the supercar, causing it to fall off.
  • The Diablo was lifted by a crane to avoid further damage, but the repair bill will be high.

Owning a Lamborghini Diablo is every car enthusiast’s whet dream—right up until that dream tail-dives into a harsh reality, courtesy of a transport ramp. That’s what happened when a silver Diablo took an unplanned tumble during unloading, leaving its owner to juggle a crushing repair bill and the internet’s unforgiving attention

Photos of the incident quickly made the rounds online, showing the silver Lamborghini awkwardly perched on its rear right wheel. The front fender wasn’t as lucky, bearing the brunt of the mishap and suffering significant damage after scraping against a wire. The root cause of the accident appears to have been a failure of the trailer’s hydraulic elevator while the Diablo was being unloaded, as evidenced by the ominous puddle of hydraulic fluid staining the tarmac below.

From what we can gather, the original photos seem to have been first shared on the VW Vortex forums by a user named VTECeateR (though we’re open to corrections). They quickly went viral after being reposted by the Instagram account Supercar Fails. The incident is said to have occurred in Boise, Idaho.

According to one Instagram user, the truck had arrived to collect a classic Ford Mustang, which necessitated backing the Diablo out of the trailer. Tragically, as the Lamborghini eased onto the ramp, the right side gave way under its weight, leading to the unfortunate collapse.

Additional photos taken later that night show the Diablo being carefully lifted by a crane, an effort to prevent any further damage to its delicate bodywork or undercarriage. Alleged witnesses report that the classic Lamborghini was left parked at the scene overnight, enduring pouring rain, alongside an Aston Martin that had also been aboard the ill-fated trailer.

Intercity Lines, the company that originally owned the truck, clarified that they sold it years ago and are “not affiliated with it in any way.” A company representative emphasized that these types of trailers require “continuous maintenance,” noting that they service their own fleet every 30 to 60 days to avoid such incidents.

The Lamborghini Diablo is approaching its 35th anniversary, having been first introduced in January 1990. Powered by a thunderous V12, the Diablo succeeded the legendary Countach and remained in production until 2001, when it passed the baton to the Murciélago.

The example in question appears to be a pre-facelift 1994 Diablo VT, with some viewers claiming it had been sold by Cats Exotics in 2019 for $295,000. Its exterior is finished in Silver Mist Metallic, tastefully paired with a red leather interior.

At its heart lies a mid-mounted 5.7-liter V12, sending 485 hp (362 kW / 492 PS) to all four wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. According to the listing at the time, the Diablo had just 13,700 miles (22,048 km) on the odometer, which would explain its pristine condition.

With any luck, the insurance will cover the damage and restore this Italian stallion to its former glory, ensuring it returns to the road where it belongs.
