Ask Us Anything About The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Sport

  • The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek introduced a new Wilderness trim but discontinued the manual gearbox option.
  • Our tester is the Sport model, equipped with a 2.5-liter boxer engine producing 182hp and paired with a CVT.
  • The compact crossover was Subaru’s top-selling model last year with over 155,000 units sold.

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek represents a significant update over the 2023 model, though we won’t blame you if the changes aren’t immediately apparent at first glance. Over the next week, we’ll be putting it to the test to see how well it handles urban sprawl, navigates gravel trails, and maybe more challenging terrains.

For the new model year, Subaru introduced a new Wilderness trim, a revamped infotainment system, but unfortunately, they’ve also dropped the manual gearbox option. Under the hood, drivers can choose between two engines.

The base model features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that delivers 152 hp (113 kW) and 145 lb-ft (196 Nm) of torque. However, our test vehicle is equipped with the more powerful 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder, which cranks out 182 horsepower (135 kW) and 178 lb-ft (241 Nm) of torque. Both engines are paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and come standard with Subaru’s all-wheel drive (AWD) system.

We’re driving a Sport model which sits comfortably in the middle of the lineup. Beneath it are the Base and Premium trims. Above it you’ll find the Limited and Wilderness trims. Our car has 18-inch wheels, gloss black and gold exterior trim, gray cloth upholstery with yellow and bronze accents, faux carbon fiber dash trim, a wireless phone charger, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

It also features a few optional extras including a sunroof, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and blind-spot warning. The grand total for a Crosstrek in this spec is just above $32,000. That’s notable because the base version starts at just $25,195 and the Wilderness trim actually starts at $32,195 so in theory, the entire range is available with only $7,000 separating each end.

The Crosstrek is Subaru’s best seller. Last year, the brand moved 155,142 of them. It just barely edged out the Outback which had 147,262 sales. Considering how popular this car is, we’re interested in seeing what it is that people love so much. What do you want to know about this model that began life as a jacked-up Impreza? Let us know in the comments and we’ll give you the answers in short order.

The Crosstrek is Subaru’s best-selling model, with 155,142 units sold last year, narrowly surpassing the Outback, which had 147,262 sales. Given its popularity, we’re eager to discover what drives such enthusiasm for this vehicle, which initially began life as a jacked-up Impreza.

Stephen, affectionately known as Rivers, has gracefully transitioned from being a repair shop manager and autocross enthusiast to a full-time writer. He’s unleashed his literary prowess on a number of publications like Road & Track, The Autopian, HotCars, CarsForSale, AutoEvolution, VINSmart, BadVIN, and a plethora of other small businesses brave enough to handle his wit.

These days, Stephen spends his time on Carscoops sleuthing for top-secret intel on how automakers and customers interact while daydreaming about tearing up the race track. If you stumble into his garage, you’ll spot a Ford Flex Limited, a MINI Cooper S Countryman ALL4, and a classic 2004 Lexus IS200 that refuses to give up its manual transmission. And when he’s not weaving tales, you might catch him doing some ministry work, dominating the hockey rink, or cruising on a bicycle — because life’s just too short for monotony.
