Thieves Steal Trailer With $1.5 Million Worth Of Porsche Racecars And Parts

  • A trailer with 4 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport racecars was stolen in Florida.
  • The track-only vehicles and the racing gear in the trailer are valued at around $1.5 million.
  • The police recovered the tractor, but the thieves removed the GPS tracker from the trailer.

Rennsport-One, a South Florida business specializing in motorsports, was targeted by thieves who stole a trailer full of racing equipment. The tractor has been recovered by the police, but the trailer is still missing, together with four Porsche racecars and lots of gear, valued at around $1.5 million.

The tractor and the trailer were parked in the Rennsport-One facilities in Pompano Beach, Florida, when thieves broke in at around 3:00 am on Sunday morning. According to the trailer’s GPS tracker, which was later removed by the thieves, the last known location of the rig was in Redland, Miami, on 6:02 am.

The thieves abandoned the tractor on a residential property in Miami, where the police located it on Monday evening. On Wednesday, the authorities took photos of the recovered vehicle and searched for any fingertips that could lead to an arrest. Despite the efforts of law enforcement agencies and the private investigator hired by Rennsport-One, the trailer is nowhere to be found and there is no trace of the racecars either.

According to Justin Bellinzoni, owner of Rennsport-One (RS1), the team kept four Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport racecars inside the trailer, together with spare parts, safety equipment, and wheels. Each vehicle is valued at around $350,000 and only one was insured, with the total cost of the stolen goods being estimated at $1.5 million.

In an Instagram post, Rennsport-One promised a “large cash reward” for any tips that will lead to the recovery of the trailer and its valuable contents. The announcement also reads: “We know the racing community is a very small niche group of people and we all compete against each other during race weekends but we’re also one large dysfunctional family”.

Judging from the details of the heist, this sounds like a job done by professionals, who knew what they were dealing with. The track-only Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsports would be worth a fortune on parts, with some internet users speculating they could end up in another country.

Bellinzoni told NBC Miami: “I thought it was a bad dream, and I just wanted to wake up. I was gutted man, we work really hard for what we do and we need these cars to compete and we have commitments to our customers and obligations to fulfill, and to see cars disappear it – was gut-wrenching. When something like this happens, it stings hard because we’re so engaged into this emotionally.”

The business owner added: “Justice would be great, but I believe in forgiveness and people make mistakes. We just really want back our stuff so we can finish the obligations and commitments we have with our customers.”
