Alfa Romeo Driver Escapes From LA Police After Hiding In Underground Parking Garage

  • The driver was unable to lose police on the 101 and 110 Freeways but evaded them in downtown LA.
  • While the man avoided capture, authorities may still be able to track him down.

The speeding driver of a black Alfa Romeo Giulia has managed to avoid arrest after leading police on a high-speed chase through Los Angeles last week.

Police started to pursue the man at roughly 8:45 p.m. on the evening of the 22nd. Much of the chase was filmed by an ABC7 helicopter and initially, the driver of the Giulia can be seen weaving through traffic at upwards of 60 mph (96 km/h) while a couple of police officers were in tow.

As the speeds started to build, the driver of the Giulia exited the freeway in the Chinatown area of Los Angeles before jumping back onto the 101 Freeway heading Northbound. While the media helicopter, and a police helicopter, captured the driver’s every move, the driver showed no signs of slowing down and eventually made their way onto the 110 Freeway traveling at over 100 mph (~160 km/h).

At approximately the 7-minute mark of the video below, the driver exited the freeway and headed into downtown Los Angeles. They soon turned off into an underground parking garage and disappeared from view. Authorities quickly gathered around the building in Pershing Square to lock it down.

KTLA5 reports that police found the Alfa Romeo in the parking garage, but they did not find the driver, meaning he likely fled on foot from the scene.

Oftentimes, police chases end in dramatic fashion, with the driver and any accomplices being arrested on the spot. While the driver in question has avoided detection for the time being, that’s no guarantee police aren’t still tracking them down. Even if the car was stolen, security cameras in the underground garage may have captured images of the driver that police could use.
