Teens Steal Ferrari 488, Lead Police On Chase From Rhode Island To Florida

  • Police allege that two teenagers stole a 2018 Ferrari 488 Spider in Rhode Island.
  • They then drove the car all the way to Florida before officers noticed it there and gave chase.
  • Now, both young men are in jail facing various charges related to the incident.

Driving a high-performance supercar up or down the coast is a dream few of us will experience. Two teenagers from Rhode Island can already say they’ve done it though. Of course, it might cost them a lifetime of trouble as police allege that they stole the Italian stallion in Rhode Island and then fled from officers when they arrived in Florida.

Those teens are Johnathan Costa, 19, and Logan Slezak, 18, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Authorities say that the pair stole the 2018 Ferrari 488 Spider all the way back in October of 2023. According to the police, they did so as part of a home invasion where they allegedly brandished firearms to coerce the victims to hand over the keys.

After the theft, local authorities issued a ‘Be on the Lookout’ (BOLO) for the stolen Ferrari. Needless to say, the flashy supercar was hard to miss and even harder to hide.

According to News 4, police spotted the pair at a home in Clinton, Connecticut, the very next day, but by the time they arrived the teens and the Ferrari were gone. That contact provided officers with the names of Slezak and Costa though. From that point forward, officers were continuously on the lookout for the car in question.

On Tuesday, Florida authorities in Flagler County saw the car and gave chase. Video from the county shows the Ferrari dodging traffic and ghosting officers with its high-horsepower V8. It was fast enough that even a FCSO Ford Mustang couldn’t keep up, and they had to call in a helicopter to help track it. Even then, it was only when an officer in a patrol car spotted it hidden in a backyard under a tarp that police moved in.

They took Costa into custody at that home and then found Slezak the next day back in Rhode Island. The two now face charges related to an armed home invasion and vehicle theft along with reckless driving.

According to one local law enforcement officer, an investigation is underway to determine if the pair is involved in a larger operation or if this was some sort of single instance. Somewhat ironically, Costa posted on Facebook a few weeks ago that he didn’t understand how people stayed in Rhode Island and was going to go “far from this place.” It sounds like he might end up incarcerated back there in Rhode Island at this rate.
