  • Toyota Brazil now offers armoring for models like the Corolla and Hilux, handled by certified experts.
  • The armoring upgrade is available for new and used cars, providing protection from attacks.
  • Despite falling crime rates, Brazil’s 39,500 homicides last year fueled demand for armored vehicles.

When you think about an armored vehicle, you probably picture a large SUV like the Cadillac Escalade or a luxury sedan flagship like the BMW 7-Series. But in Brazil, customers can now get the same level of protection in a Corolla, thanks to a new dealer option.

Toyota Brazil has partnered with local armoring experts Avallon, Carbon, Evolution Blindagens, and Parvi Blindados to offer this option for both new and used models. Interested customers can contact their local Toyota dealership to have their vehicle sent to the armoring company of their choice, even before taking delivery.

According to the dedicated page on the official website, compatible models include the Corolla sedan, the Corolla Cross SUV, the Hilux pickup, and the SW4 (Fortuner) SUV. The same applies to pre-owned examples as long as they are not older than the 2020 model year and they undergo a prior assessment at the Toyota dealer.

The companies reinforce the bodywork with specialized compounds and install thicker windows, making the vehicle safer in the unfortunate event of an attack. The armor is reportedly rated to withstand rounds from small firearms and other weapons such as bats or metal pipes.

The service was discovered by our colleagues in Top Gear Philippines, who were as amazed as we are from the black armored Corolla. Unfortunately, the cost of the optional upgrade remains unknown. However, the companies provide a 5-year warranty on the armoring installation services and a 5- or 10-year warranty on the materials, depending on the specific components.

Despite a slight decline in overall crime rates, Brazil’s alarming homicide toll, reaching 39,500 last year, continues to cast a long shadow over the nation. This grim reality has fueled a growing demand for automotive security, as Brazilians seek to protect themselves from the ever-present threat of violence on the nation’s roads.
