Camaro ZL1 Dangles From Sixth Floor Of Parking Lot After Rolling Away

  • The Camaro was reportedly left in neutral and it rolled away, crashing through the building’s wall.
  • Firefighters spent 41 minutes securing the Camaro to ensure it didn’t fall.
  • Fortunately, no one was injured during this parking mishap.

A Chevrolet Camaro was left in a precarious position earlier this week after crashing through the wall of a multi-story parking lot in Charlotte, North Carolina. Fortunately, the muscle car, which was at the sixth floor of the building, didn’t crash down to the pavement below.

The Charlotte Fire Department responded to the scene, and photos show the nose of the black Camaro poking out from the side of the parking structure. It appears to be a flagship Camaro ZL1 variant and reportedly crashed through the building wall after being left in neutral and rolling away, with no one inside the car.

It took firefighters 41 minutes to secure the Camaro and prevent it from moving forward and potentially falling onto the sidewalk and street. Speaking with Road & Track, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) said there were “no injuries reported” and “there was no structural damage to the building.”

The CMPD continues to investigate the incident. It’s unclear if the Camaro is fitted with the available 10-speed automatic transmission or the six-speed manual. The incident demonstrates how important it is to always enable the parking brake, regardless of whether you put an automatic in Park or turn off a manual and then put it in gear.

It’s not uncommon for new cars to be recalled for having the potential to pop out of gear and roll away, so making sure a vehicle is stable and secure when parking is motoring 101.

Fortunately for the Camaro owner, the damage done doesn’t appear too bad. The car will definitely need a new grille and bumper. There’s a good chance the large front splitter has also been scratched and needs to be replaced. The passenger-side headlight also appears to be missing, so it, too, will need to be replaced.
