Snow in the Sierra Nevadas led to carnage, as video of Ford pickup and Tesla Model 3 sliding helplessly down a hill prove

Driving in the snow can be intimidating, and a recent video shared by the Mono County Sheriff’s Office in California illustrates exactly why. Several vehicles turn into toboggans as they slide down a hill, helplessly colliding with each other.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident occurred on Davison Road, in Mammoth Lakes, California, a town located high in the Sierra Nevada mountain chain, which explains why the conditions were so snowy.

The department says that cars were strewn across many roads in its jurisdiction as a result of the tricky conditions, and it’s not hard to see why after watching this video. In it, a Tesla Model 3 and a Ford pickup go sliding down the street, and slam into a Ram pickup, that then goes sliding down the hill.

Even Snow Chains Couldn’t Save This Tesla From Sliding And Crashing

The video is alarming, both because of the speed the vehicle pick up on their way down the hill, and because of the lack of control they seem to have. More worrying still, the Tesla appears to have snow chains on its rear wheels, which do little to help it maintain control.

While it’s unclear what kind of tires the Ford is wearing, nor if it pushed the Tesla down the hill, it’s a remarkable reminder of the power that a little bit of gravity and a total lack of friction can have over our vehicles.

Unfortunately, there aren’t many recommendations to make in this case. While the Mono County Sheriff’s Office says that drivers should ensure they’re ready for winter before heading out (and that’s certainly good advice), it didn’t do much to help the Tesla. The only real suggestion we can make is the same one given to sailers: if in doubt, don’t go out.
