Massive Waves Destroy RVs And Pickups During Storm On Californian Coast

Numerous pickup trucks, SUVs, RVs, and trailers have been destroyed after being hit by waves in Oceano, California late last week.

Many people had set up camp at the beach but as it turns out, they parked far too close to the water. Footage from the beach shows waves crashing across the camping area, forcing people to run across the sand dunes to higher ground. While no one appears to have been injured by the high surf, a host of vehicles were not so lucky.

KMPH Fox26 News suggests that millions of dollars in vehicles were wrecked by the waves. While that could be a bit of an exaggeration, among the vehicles lost include a white Dodge pickup and a host of RVs. The full extent of the damage done was only apparent once the waves had receded.

Individuals commenting on a Facebook post about the carnage left behind by the waves have suggested that warnings were in place for the high surf but that many campers refused to leave, perhaps thinking that they were not in danger and had parked far away enough from the water. Mother nature had different ideas and it appears the ignorance of these campers has come back to bite them.

Based purely on the low-resolution videos and images available from the scene, it’s difficult to determine if the damage done to the vehicles and RVs is terminal or if they are repairable. However, we all know that salt water can wreak havoc on a vehicle and the impacted owners may have to cover the costs should insurers refuse to provide coverage, which is possible if those impacted did indeed ignore warnings.
