Rob Dahm meets up with the folks who built this LS-Swapped Porsche-esque creation to pick it apart

Porschephiles, Is The Oil Stain Lab Half-11 Great Or Gross?

Highly customized Porsches are all the rage right now, but what the brothers at Oil Stain Lab have done truly stands out. Dubbed the Half11 prototype, this unique creation features an LS V8, a transaxle, and much more. Rob Dahm recently had the chance to thoroughly examine the car, leaving us with just one question: is it great or gross?

According to Iliya and Nikita Bridan, the brothers behind Oil Stain Lab, the Half-11 sits on a Porsche 911 tub, but it’s just about all custom after that. The body is hand-fabricated aluminum. It has inboard suspension just like a real race car and that’s great because this creation isn’t slow.

Dahm says that the V8 makes 650 hp (484 kW) and 650 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque. On top of that, the whole car weighs less than 2,000 pounds (907 kg). Transmitting power to the rear wheels is the duty of a Porsche 911 GT2 transaxle that’s flipped upside down to fit properly. Combine all of those features and you get a vehicle that has the ability to overwhelm the senses of both its driver and passenger.

Don’t be too worried about the GM-derived engine either. According to the Bridan brothers, they spent some 18 months developing the exhaust to ensure that it both sounded and looked like the car they’d dream up. In the end, they used 3D-printed Inconel to create the entire header system. That sort of painstaking attention to detail has buyers lining up.

The Half11 is a prototype after all and Oil Stain Lab has plans to build up to 25 examples in varying forms. They’re planning a windshield version, a coupe version, gullwing doors, and more. The real question is if it actually hits all of the right buttons. Dahm says that “you cannot be bored driving this” and that driving it is crazier than the car looks.

Porsche purists and some others might hate this wild creation but those who just love a good drive might find it quite fetching. Where do you stand? Spectacular or sacrilegious?
