No, the Tesla Model X can’t drive on water but this scene sure makes it seem as though this one did

Out Of Control Tesla Flies Over A Swimming Pool Before Crashing Into A House

In a bizarre incident in San Mateo, California, a Tesla Model X ended up inside a family’s home after an elderly driver reportedly lost control of her vehicle. The dramatic sequence of events unfolded as the EV hit a curb, soared through a yard and driveway, collided with two parked cars, plowed through a fence, and even flew over a swimming pool before ultimately crashing into the kitchen of another residence.

“My sister actually got an alert from the security alarm system to let her know that someone had broken into the house,” Meredith Donato said of the Tesla that crashed into her mother’s home. “Broken into the house” ended up being far more literal than she might have initially realized though. The blue Tesla Model X managed to jump over a swimming pool before finding its way into the kitchen around 7:45 a.m.

Somehow, the kitchen just ended up being the final resting place after the driver of the Model X caused a slew of other damage. She reportedly lost control of the all-electric SUV and that’s when things went from bad to worse.

The path of destruction left in the wake of the incident includes damaged items such as a fence, two other parked cars, a curb, and a yard. The chaos didn’t stop there, as a tow truck involved in the recovery effort experienced a cable break.

The driver, a 70-year-old woman, and her 40-year-old daughter, who was apparently in the passenger seat, both survived the crash inside the Tesla but were taken to the hospital for evaluation. Fortunately, nobody was inside the home at the time of the accident. Police believe that the vehicle must have soared through the air for a distance of 40-50 feet en route to the kitchen as it managed to leap over a sizable swimming pool.

Considering that the Model X weighs north of 5,100 pounds (2313 kg) it must have been traveling quite fast to clear that sort of distance. Somehow, that’s not the most important miracle here.

“Honestly, I’m just amazed that no one was hurt… if my mother was in the house, she would absolutely have been drinking her tea at 7 a.m. in the kitchen,” Donato told KTVU. “There’s obviously property damage, but at the end of the day it’s just stuff.” We’re happy to hear that nobody ended up hurt.
