<br /> Denver Driver’s Sidewalk Shortcut To Clear Construction Turns Into Destruction Derby | Carscoops

A Chrysler 300 driver in Denver discovered that trying to forge ahead at all costs through the pedestrian walkways next to a construction site is actually a very bad idea

I’m sure we all know what it feels like to make a bad decision that leads to an even worse decision, only to later realize that we should have just cut our losses at the beginning. But I bet very few of us have likely experienced that nightmarish feeling on quite as large and destructive a scale as one driver in Denver, Colorado, recently did.

In an incident that appears to have taken place on Champa St., in the city’s central business district, the driver of a Chrysler 300 found themselves on a sidewalk, next to the street, which was under construction.

Video of the incident was captured by a pedestrian, and posted to Reddit. Unfortunately, we don’t know how this all started, as the footage starts in media res, with the Chrysler already deep into the construction zone, trying to force its way through.

On an apparent walkway for pedestrians, the car tries to squeeze through the construction zone’s metal fences. In doing so, it runs over the base of one of the fence posts, and pops a tire. However, it continues on, and as it passes, scrapes can be seen all down the side of the vehicle, and other tires reveal themselves to also be flat.

The car drives past several pedestrians, and the driver shows a wanton disregard for the safety of its passengers, one of whom gets out to try and warn pedestrians, and asks them to stop filming. I’ve got to say, I feel a lot of sympathy for the woman tasked with warning pedestrians, as she appears to be trying her best in a bad situation that she wasn’t really responsible for.

Somehow, the Chrysler eventually gets through the construction zone, but continues to drive on the sidewalk after the road becomes available. Blocked by a light standard and a restaurant patio, the car then runs into a parked Honda CR-V as its driver attempts to back up and get onto the street.

With all four tires now popped, and the driver doubtless in full panic mode, more havoc is created by this maneuver. As the 300 scrapes the parked CR-V, others yell at the vehicle’s driver, and one even slams on the window.

The Chrysler eventually gets off the sidewalk, onto the street, and drives away in a hurry, leaving the woman who got out of it to chase after it. The car appears to leave its front bumper behind in the process, and the extensive video of the incident means that its custom license plate is clearly visible, which should help the police with their investigation.

Whatever led to this incident, it’s a reminder that sometimes, cutting your losses is the right thing to do. More importantly, don’t drive on sidewalks!
