Two New Ford Super Duty Trucks Delivered With Mismatched Headlights

Building new production vehicles is no walk in the park but some things, such as ensuring the installation of matching pairs of parts, should be a simple task and, well, you know, mandatory. Evidently, fitting matching headlights in the Ford Super Duty series of trucks isn’t that cut and dry. Some owners have made the puzzling discovery that Ford’s production team installed different headlight assemblies on the same truck.

Recently, the Instagram account owned by SDTruckGuys shared a post featuring a Super Duty truck with mismatched headlights. At first glance, especially with the truck turned off, it might be challenging for someone not in the know to spot the difference. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes evident that one headlight had projector-style lights while the other did not.

The owner of the Lariat Tremor expressed their surprise when speaking to TheDrive, stating, “It’s frightening that if they could mess up something as simple as this, there may be other underlying issues. But nowadays, that’s the case with anything you purchase.” Naturally, the dealer assured them that they will rectify the problem.

Then, just two days later, another account responded with their own sighting of a different truck with the same problem. This time though, the photo showed the stark difference that the two different headlight assemblies make when in use. Interestingly, they didn’t report any error lights or issues with running the mismatched lights.

One commenter claiming to be part of the team that builds the Super Duty says this is a major oversight. “It would have to get past final inspection in 3 departments… I think a lot of this kind of stuff is fake,” they say. While that’s certainly possible, it’s not like mismatched parts are unheard of.

This isn’t the first instance of mismatched equipment we’ve witnessed from Ford this year. Just a couple of months ago, there was a one 2024 Mustang with completely different front seats. That seems even less likely since one can see the other while the installation is taking place. Nevertheless, not only did it happen, but the pony car actually made it to the dealer lot and was listed for sale!

It should be noted that it’s not just Ford with an issue like this. GMC delivered one SUV with mismatched paint. A Tesla Model X customer ended up with an SUV that had two different tire types on it and one Nissan Frontier buyer got a truck with different trim stickers on each side. Accidents happen and we’re confident that just like in those cases, the automaker will make it right.
