What’s More Fun, The Lambo Huracan Sterrato Or Porsche 911 Dakar?

The Porsche 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato could be viewed as simple cash-grabs but both represent unique takes on the cars that they are based on and each has their own unique appeal. Which is better?

To answer that question, Top Gear recently got its hands on both the 911 Dakar and the Huracan Sterrato and put them to the test on both a race track and along some gravel roads and paths. Obviously, neither of these two off-roader-focused sports cars are as capable on a circuit as the standard models on which they are based. However, Tom Ford says that they are actually more fun on a track, and that of the two, it is the 911 that is the more mature and friendly car whereas the Lambo is the more enjoyable.

While powersliding the 911 Dakar car through some of the track’s corners, he mentions that it feels a bit like a cross between a sports car and a Cayenne. The Huracan Sterrato also looks to be plenty of fun to drive on a track and the driving experience is dominated by the 5.2-liter naturally-aspirated V10. Top Gear then took the duo off the track and onto some gravel.

First, Ford drives the Huracan Sterrato. Although it is more off-road friendly than a regular Huracan, it still sits low to the ground and all of the little stones on the gravel road can be heard slipping up into the wheel arches. By comparison, the 911 Dakar is a little more capable, thanks in part to its dedicated off-road mode that cleverly distributes power between the two axles. Additionally, the ride height of the 911 Dakar can be raised and the same cannot be said about the Lamborghini. It is also a little easier to handle than the Huracan Sterrato but it is not as exciting as its Italian rival.
