Prior to crashing into the police station, the driver is accused of intentionally driving his vehicle through a nearby residence

A New Jersey man is in jail and facing some pretty big charges after allegedly driving into two buildings in the space of just a few minutes. Fortunately, the cops didn’t have to chase him very far, because the second building he drove into was reportedly the Independence Township Police Department.
The man, 34-year-old John G. Hargreaves, was taken into custody after driving through the lobby of the police station in a gold Toyota SUV. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in either crash Hargreaves was involved in.
“The entire vehicle came to a final resting place in the squad room,” said Warren County Prosecutor James Pfeiffer, in a statement seen by ABC News. “The defendant exited the vehicle and appeared to be celebrating as officers apprehended him on scene as his car stereo blared the song ‘Welcome to the Jungle’.”

The pose also may have had the benefit of showing that Hargreaves was not holding a weapon after he plowed into the station. In a video shared by the department, the officers in the station responded with remarkable coolness, despite the unusual nature of the situation.
Making the crash even stranger, it wasn’t the driver’s first incident of the night. Pfeiffer alleges that minutes before crashing into the station, Hargreaves drove through the garage door of a nearby home in Liberty Township.
“The investigation showed that at approximately 6:17 p.m. (on Sept. 20), the defendant deliberately crashed his gold Toyota SUV into the garage of a private residence in an attempt to scare or harass the homeowner, who the defendant knew,” said Pfeiffer.
No injuries were reported in that incident, either, but Hargreaves is still facing some pretty major charges. They include burglary, harassment, aggravated assault, criminal mischief, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and first-degree terrorism. That last charge could carry with it a penalty of 30 years to life in prison.
For now, Hargreaves is being held at Warren County Correctional Center pending a hearing, which is set to take place at Warren County Superior Court.
