Tow Truck Driver Allegedly Takes Off With Customer’s ’65 Mustang

Buying a classic car should be a very exciting day, but it requires one to put a lot of trust in a lot of people. One buyer in Louisiana recently found out that not everyone is trustworthy, and claims that a tow truck driver hired to transport his 1965 Ford Mustang actually ended up stealing it.

The victim claims that he had just bought the blue, customized Mustang you see photographed here. He contacted a tow company to pick the vehicle up from its former home in Lawrenceville, Georgia, and drive it to its new home in Louisiana.

However, the ’65 Mustang never arrived. In an incident report dated August 25, the Gwinnett County Police Department reports that the tow truck driver contacted the buyer and insisted that he pay for the tow before dropping the Mustang off. The car’s new owner balked, and said that he would pay after the receiving it.

That complicated the status of the vehicle, and the Gwinnett County Police Department’s reporting officer claims that he advised the plaintiff that this was more of a civil matter than a criminal one. Further complicating matters, the buyer was waiting until he received the car to transfer the title from the old owner to himself.

However, it would appear that the issue still has not been resolved, because the police department now says that it is working to locate the “stolen 1965 Ford Mustang.” In its report, the police describe the offense as “theft by deception.” Now, the GCPD is asking anyone with information about the car to reach out to them in order to help them find the vehicle.

That shouldn’t be too hard to do since the Mustang is distinctly customized. It features modified front fenders, LED headlights, double taillights, exhaust tips incorporated into the rear bumper, American Racing Wheels, and more.
