A Tesla Model S has dramatically crashed into a department store in Hong Kong, unfortunately injuring the driver and a staff member that was inside.

It is understood that the dark red Model S P85D slammed into the ground-floor store in Skyline Plaza at 1:07 p.m. on Wednesday. The 59-year-old driver was treated for minor injuries to his lips and legs while a 23-year-old working at the bakery that was hit was injured by a falling cabinet.

Images shared on social media indicate that the Model S suffered significant damage. Approximately half of it can be seen inside the bakery and photos shared by the South China Morning Post reveal that the front bumper, hood, and windshield were all badly damaged. It also appears as though the Tesla sustained some kind of suspension damage as it is sitting very low to the pavement.

Interestingly, local media reports that the Tesla Model S was a rental and that the 59-year-old driver only picked it up shortly before the crash. While local authorities are continuing to investigate the crash, The Standard says the driver told police that the car accelerated by itself despite him hitting the brake pedal.

It is possible that Tesla itself will open an investigation into the crash in addition to any investigation undertaken by police at the scene.

This is not the only recent crash involving a Tesla in Hong Kong. Earlier this month, the 23-year-old driver of a Tesla crashed into 10 pallets at the Yau Ma Tei Fruit Market, injuring himself but fortunately not anyone else.
