Two Drivers Arrested And Charged After Injuring Over A Dozen In Alabama Sideshow In December

by Stephen Rivers

Two drivers are facing second-degree assault charges in connection with their involvement in a highly publicized crash that took place in Alabama in December 2022. According to the police, the collision occurred as a result of the drivers engaging in exhibition driving stunts. Tragically, the incident led to over a dozen injuries, with nine individuals initially in critical condition.

We told you about this accident when it happened back in mid-December of 2022. Details were scarce at the time, but the video showed a red Dodge Charger leaving the frame before a massive impact took place off-camera. What we’ve learned now is that the impact was the result of a Nissan 350Z hitting the Charger. The injured individuals were spectators who were present at the scene of this illegal exhibition driving event.

According to AL.com, the crash occurred when a Nissan 370z crashed into the Charger as it did donuts on the road. The Nissan was, according to witnesses, street racing a third car.

The intersection where the event took place, Gun Club Road and John Rogers Drive, shows a number of donut-shaped tire marks on the ground. The map above is from January 2022, so this may have been a popular place for this activity for some time. Generally speaking, exhibition driving is a big problem both in Alabama and nationwide.

In July of 2022, a 14-year-old boy died when he was struck by a car during an exhibition driving event. The next month in August, a woman died and four others were injured in a similar situation. As a result, city authorities sought means to heighten penalties for those who participate in and attend such events.

Legislators passed a bill in April of this year that does just that. First-time offenders face imprisonment for between five and 90 days, a fine of $25 to $500, or both. In this case, the two drivers, Marvin Puerto, 19, and Brandon Marquise Waller, 24, are charged with six counts each of second-degree assault.Court records show seven different victims. Puerto is still in jail as of this writing on a $90,000 bond. Waller, who was arrested in April, actually posted his $90,000 bond already.
