Police cars are often regarded as symbols of protection around the world, but a recent incident in New York certainly contradicts this perception and raises concerns about safety.

It involved a Ford Explorer squad car that was caught on video apparently trying to intentionally collide with a moped rider on the highway. What’s particularly alarming is that the police car executed these dangerous maneuvers without utilizing its lights and siren, and there was no apparent indication of the officers pursuing an arrest.

The perplexing incident unfolded on a Queens Highway, garnering significant attention after the video was widely shared on Reddit. In the footage, the Ford police car can be observed approaching the moped at highway speeds and then engaging in maneuvers aimed at blocking the rider’s path in the left lane. The officer behind the wheel employs braking and swerving tactics in an apparent effort to impede the moped’s progress.

Despite the perilous situation, the moped rider makes evasive maneuvers, changing lanes in an attempt to avoid a collision. However, the marked SUV pursues the rider, persisting with dangerous swerving maneuvers in an attempt to knock him down. Eventually, at the last possible moment, the rider manages to take an exit, successfully eluding the ordeal enforced by the police without sustaining any injuries.

Although the events leading up to the recorded incident remain unknown, the behavior exhibited by the police officer on duty appears to be unjustifiably reckless. Regardless of any potential prior circumstances, it is expected and mandated that law enforcement officials would follow appropriate protocols when dealing with individuals on the road.

If the moped rider had committed an offense, the police should have signaled for him to pull over. The fact that the police car did not have its lights and siren activated indicates that this was not an official police pursuit. Consequently, the officer’s actions seem to be in violation of proper conduct and raise serious questions about their behavior.

As noted by several commenters on Reddit, this is not the first time a police vehicle has been caught red-handed driving in a reckless manner, putting the lives of civilians in danger. Such incidents serve to tarnish the reputation of law enforcement agencies and erode public trust and confidence in police tactics.

According to a report by Streets Blog, the incident was brought to the attention of the NYPD, with a spokesperson responding by saying: “We are aware of the video and it is under internal review”.

We sincerely hope that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the actions of the officer behind the wheel, with the aim of ensuring that justice is served.
