Police Pull Over Motorcyclist Doing 171 MPH While Allegedly Intoxicated

by Stephen Rivers

A Florida man is facing multiple charges after police arrested him in New Hampshire on Sunday. Authorities allege that the motorcycle driver, Christopher Unghire, 36, was traveling at 171 mph (275 km/h) while intoxicated. He’s since left jail but has an upcoming court date.

New Hampshire State Police say that during routine traffic enforcement, they noticed Unghire traveling eastbound on his motorcycle at 120 mph (193 km/h) near Exeter. Trooper Brian Hanna of the NHSP Troop A barracks saw that initial speed and observed as Unghire allegedly accelerated to 160 mph (257 km/h). Hanna then communicated with Trooper Seth Parker who was some distance down the road.

Parker then obtained the speed record you see in our lead image, 171 mph (275 km/h) on a public road at about 5:15 p.m. While it’s not completely uncommon to see motorcyclists at this speed simply run and evade officers, Unghire did the right thing and pulled over when police approached.

According to the NHSP, Unghire is now facing charges of reckless conduct, aggravated driving while intoxicated, and reckless driving. He was subsequently released on his own recognizance and is scheduled for arraignment on June 1, 2023.

This is far from the first time NHSP has dealt with such excessive speeds. Last year, a man in a Chevrolet Corvette allegedly rolled past police doing 161 mph (259 km/h) on I-93. In that case, police only caught up to the driver when he hit traffic.
