Arnold Schwarzenegger Fixes LA Street Pothole After Waiting 3 Weeks For Repairs

Hit by a wave of late winter storms, Los Angeles, California, is facing something that much of the northern part of the country is all too familiar with: spring potholes. Tired of waiting for municipal crews, actor and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger decided to step in.

“Today, after the whole neighborhood has been upset about this giant pothole that’s been screwing up cars and bicycles for weeks, I went out with my team and fixed it,” wrote Schwarzenegger in a social media post. “I always say, let’s not complain, let’s do something about it. Here you go.”

In a video accompanying the post, Schwarzenegger, who is now 75-years-old, can be seen shoveling cold patch asphalt repair into a rather large hole in the street. Decked out in work boots and a leather jacket, it was the former Mr. Universe’s job to lift and empty the bag of Quickcrete onto the street (at least once for the cameras).

A representative for Schwarzenegger told the Associated Press that he and other residents of Brentwood (one of L.A.’s wealthiest neighborhoods) had asked multiple times for repairs to be completed. In the video that Schwarzenegger shared, a woman can be seen driving up alongside he and his crew, thanking them for filling the potholes.

“You’re welcome,” said Schwarzenegger. “You have to do it yourself. This is crazy. For three weeks I’ve been waiting for this hole to be closed.”

Mayor Karen Bass announced last week that the municipality has a plan to address the damage caused to the streets by winter storms, and that she expects the work to be done by the end of April. Since December 30, officials said that L.A. has received 19,692 requests for repairs. By April 6, crews had filled 17,549 potholes. Vehicles that are damaged by road imperfections can file a reimbursement form at the Caltrans website.
